Sage Engine

Note

The Sage Engine is only available for Zivid 2+ MR130, MR60, and LR110.

The Sage Engine is built for exceptional point cloud quality in scenes with highly specular reflective objects and bins. While the capture time with the Sage Engine is the longest, it is the best vision engine for handling reflection artifacts, providing high-confidence 3D data. This makes the engine suitable for factory automation, manufacturing, bin picking and inspection applications.

The Sage Engine is developed specifically to handle scenes with for example:

  • Metallic cylinders

  • Automotive parts

  • Sheet and plate metal

  • Polished metal

  • Chrome-plated parts

  • Stacked metallic objects

Point cloud quality

The Sage Engine is best at handling vertical reflections. Typical examples are reflections from the bin wall and neighboring objects.

The same imaging challenges arise when two flat surfaces face each other at a 90-degree angle.

Dynamic range

The Sage Engine has a high dynamic range, and is therefore less sensitive to:

  • Highlights

  • Blooming effects

  • Reflections from ambient light sources

  • Direct reflections from the projector

This results in less penalty when the camera points straight down into a bin and other objects.

The Sage Engine has slightly less point cloud coverage than the Stripe Engine. However, the 3D data is more reliable; thus, the overall point cloud is more accurate.

Tip

If your scene includes highly reflective specular (shiny) objects and you prefer having only reliable points over complete point cloud, then the Sage Engine is the best choice.
