Same Cameras, Settings, and Scene, Different Point Clouds

Problem

Two cameras of the same model output different point clouds and color images using the same settings for the same scene.

Possible cause

Tolerances in the aperture mechanism cause the two same cameras to get different amounts of light with the same settings. The difference is more pronounced for higher f-numbers (smaller aperture) because the relative exposure between aperture steps is higher.

Solution

Fine-tune the aperture value(s) for your settings until you get the same point clouds. If you are using HDR, do it acquisition by acquisition. Alternatively, use capture assistant.
